ALCHEMY AWARD WINNERS AT RECORD-BREAKING LONDON EDGE.

london edge trade showThe recent London Edge alternative fashion show was the most successful to date, with over 300 collections on display at the Olympia in London, making it the busiest and most popular so far. It also proved a highly successful show for Alchemy, who took a record number of orders over the weekend.

To cap it all, Alchemy won the London Edge Award for the best dressed stand for an inventive display, which eschewed conventional Gothic colour schemes in favour of a cobweb-cream theme, giving an elegant aura of Dickensian decay. Furniture from the studio’s Elegy Brand was a particular attraction this year, soliciting a number of new commissions. Alchemy’s many licensed products, such as the Sub Rosa urban fashion collection also proved immensely popular, while rock ‘n’ roll was well represented courtesy of the new official Alchemy guitar which went on public display in the UK for the first time (click here to see it in action).

Elegy Brand at the Brit Awards.

The Elegy Brand Furnishing Company is the furniture design and manufacture arm of England’s famous Alchemy studios. Visit www.elegybrand.com for more information.

Current projects include a bar for a new West End restaurant, and a full, gothic bedroom suite, coffin barcomplete with a massive and decadent, carved, four-poster bed, while past commissions have included a eight-seater dining suite headed by a skull-throne fit for a Carpathian count. The flagship of the range, however, remains the 1.5 tonne solid, carved-oak ‘Highgate’ tomb-coffin bar, a macabre device which not only looks impressively eerie, but is mechanised so by remote control, the lid slowly and silently rises up to reveal the emerging serving counter. If the dining suite is fit for a count, then we reckon this is fit for the Prince of Darkness himself! Some of the organisers behind the Brits appear to agree, and last minute negotiations are currently under way to secure the late services of The Highgate Coffin Cocktail Cabinet, for the appearance of everybody’s favourite Prince of Darkness and his equally famous wife at the upcoming Awards in London. As they say, watch this space…

ALCHEMY’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY SOIREE SUCCESS!

Come the afternoon of January the 24th, everything was in place for Alchemy’s 30th anniversary celebrations in London’s fashionable Bloomsbury district. The studio’s dedicated design team worked like demons to turn the district’s famed Horse Hospital from a space more used to hosting avant-garde art displays and independent film festivals, into a candlelit Gothic gallery of decadent diversions and vintage curiosities for the evening. The walls were adorned with frames showcasing Alchemy’s three decades of jewellery design, glass cabinets erected to display everything from silver candelabra to opulent goblets and bespoke leather jackets, solid oak thrones from the studio’s Elegy Furnishing Company collection installed to complete the setting in suitably grand style...[READ MORE] [Download PDF]

Some Sinfully Good New Designs

Pride is one of our favourite sins here at Alchemy, and the new Saligia designs have given us plenty of opportunity to indulge it, not least because these stylish new treasures all owe their very soul to the essence of sin. The range can trace its genesis to a few years ago, when our chief designer Geoff Kayson was visiting Sweden. In the Gothenburg museum he chanced upon a late medieval glass vessel, exquisitely crafted in a seven-sided design.

Enchanted and intrigued, Geoff secured a replica, then set about replicating the design in pewter as soon as he got back to his workshop. Saligia’s other inspiration was the Dutch artist Heironymous Bosch, specifically his lesser known 1485 painting ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’. Bosch’s hellish work is thick with symbolism, and Geoff decided to try and capture that same enigmatic quality in his Saligia range. We think the results are sinfully good, and have attached a depiction of a few of the pieces to see if you agree.

Giveaways & the Press.

We seem to have been infected with a little seasonal spirit here at Alchemy, as for part of the studio’s ongoing celebrations of our 30th Anniversary, we’ve arranged a number of giveaways with our friends in the press.

Readers of Skin Deep – the UK’s best-selling tattoo magazine ( http://www.skindeep.co.uk/ ) – are enjoying the opportunity to win some of Alchemy’s exclusive, limited edition T-shirts, top-end designer wear celebrating the Anniversary, and destined to become collector’s items. While we were pleased to sponsor the letter of the month in the December issue of Metal Hammer ( http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/ ) – the UK’s leading metal monthly.

So pleased, in fact, that we’re now planning a series of competitions starting early in the new year, offering lucky readers an opportunity to win a selection of Alchemy’s best new designs every month.

Editors of suitable publications interested in running similar competitions are invited to contact Alchemy ( gavin.baddeley@blueyonder.co.uk ) in order to discuss becoming part of our ongoing campaign.
